Salon Prize

That Other Juried Salon Prize

About The Salon Prize

through my own career as an artist I have had many pitfalls. At every stumbling block I always thought to myself “As soon as I am in a position to help other artists I am going to take the chance”.  I can remember while living in England having to carry a soaking wet oil painting through a mall in order to catch the bus home. As simple as it sounds the worst part was getting all my kit and that wet painting through those large metal doors while not ruining my painting or getting any paint on racing children pushing through the doors. Believe it or not every time I approached those doors with 100 pounds of painting gear someone always held the door for me….so my image(s) survived. There have been other larger moments…like winning scholarships, being given a place to stay or use of another artists studio, but they all add up. And that is why I started this prize along with a lot of help from The Kingston School of Art in 2009.

In our 3rd year we are excited to still be doing it again thanks to all of our volunteers, Kingston’s local businesses and our artists whom enter.

Think of this as stepping stone…a reason to go through all your work and decide which ones are strong enough to have a show (not just with us..but somewhere else too!), a chance to win some extra cash to rent that long awaited studio away from the hustle and bustle of reg life or just simply a way to network and get to know what everyone else is painting.

We are growing strong and we at The Salon Prize will continue to work hard to give our artists the best venue, the best advertising and the best support we can and all you have to do is worry about that one image for us.

We wish every entrant the best success!!

And we look forward to meeting you in 2011.

Sincerely,

Cleah Bunting
